Gilles & Boissier: Residential

The residential space I have been most drawn to these days...

The architectural details

clean-lined furniture

art collection/placement

all the way down to the flooring

create a truly outstanding composition.

This comes out of a Parisian architectural and interior design atelier - Gilles & Boissier. They have quite an array of work under their belt.

A couple other residential projects of theirs that stood out to me...

My Husband and the Sea

It has been quite a while, so I thought it appropriate to come back with a simple recipe from where I've been...

I've known all along that my husband has been having a love affair with the sea. When the elements don't offer sufficient waves for surf, he spends his time under them. As of late, I've been mostly alright with this as it has left me with a freezer full of lobster and fish.

Before the holidays, we had a little getaway to Kauai. The water and mountains made for a wonderful time, but we had a few delicious meals along the way - one of which I'd been waiting for just the right piece of fish to try on my own - Opah Eggs Benedict from The Garden Cafe at Common Ground, a beautiful, sustainable property in Kilauea. Though it was not Opah, my husband brought home a great piece of fish, Lingcod, which proved to be a good alternate. So, I gave it a recipe-less go and stacked a bunch of ingredients on top of each other...

- toasted, seeded english muffin
- scrambled egg (untraditionally not poached)
- seasoned tomato
- seasoned, grilled Lingcod
- caramelized onions
- sprouts
- hollandaise

Another unbelievable meal to try if ever over there is the Ahi wrap from Kilauea Fish Market - I tried it with ono - twice - and would attempt to make it at home but wouldn't even know where to begin with the dressing.

Milk Bar for the Masses

My NY indulgence, Momofuku Milk Bar, is now available for the masses, and this consumer is reaping the benefits with her new Christmas present...

The Milk Bar made a bold move mid-fall making their unique recipes public with the release of a new cookbook. I doubt the final products baked by laypeople like me will compare to those made at the actual bakery, but they will at least be fun to attempt. We'll see how it goes.

A less labor intensive option is available for a few of their cookies at Williams-Sonoma...

Burberry Acoustic: Rae Morris

Yet another facet of the fantastic (and flourishing) initiative Burberry has made at enhancing their brand over the past several years - Burberry Acoustic. In collaboration with developing artists from Britain, Burberry features an acoustic track by each filmed at a location meaningful to them. That said, Burberry most recently released 18 year old Rae Morris's "Wait A While" - innocent and powerful - and I must say that I really love it...

One more for the road (not from Burberry) - her song "Walls" accompanied by the Halle Orchestra...

Quite a Carousel Ride

I have a child-like fascination with productions of any sort that are somewhat over the top. Though I am a bit delayed in posting, the Louis Vuitton Spring 2012 runway from Paris Fashion Week blew my mind. The carousel accompanied by the most perfectly selected musical composition that sounded as though it were from an aged music box beautifully set the stage for Marc Jacob's creations for LV.

The film of the show is worth at least a watching or two. Unfortunately, my technological skills were not sufficient enough for me to embed a high-quality version of the video, so it can be viewed at this louisvuitton.com page.

The collection: crisp and delicate, feminine and seemingly innocent...

"Stone house by the sea" - Alexandre de Betak

Leading event producer, Alexandre de Betak created an unbelievable home made of stone in nearly every capacity. Located in Majorca's Tramuntana region, he was restriced by building codes which clearly did not provide much restriction in this Gaudi-inspired haven. The New York Times T Magazine elaborates in this article from last Spring.

I find that I am drawn to ideas. Whether they are brilliant, simple, or aesthetically beautiful (to my eyes), they tend to be other people’s ideas. I have much respect for people who have the vulnerability to bring their ideas to life. My first internal reaction is often envy, but then it becomes gratitude – and gratefulness for a creator that enables people to bring to life the ideas that He gives them. Occasionally though, one of those ideas is my own. They don’t come often, but when they do, no matter how small or insignificant they may be, I am humbled and inspired. This is a place for me to exhibit those ideas, mostly others – sometimes my own.
