Savage Beauty: Traveling Exhibition Petition

In response to my brief post about the McQueen exhibit which recently came to a close in NY and is now being petitioned to be moved to London, I received a beautifully composed comment regarding a different petition to make the Savage Beauty exhibition a traveling one - a petition I was not previously aware of. If my previous post interested you, I encourage you to review this comment here and petition here as the reader who commented makes a compelling point to be considered.

Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty

On my recent visit to New York, to my great disappointment I discovered that I had just missed the acclaimed exhibit at the Met - Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty.

According to Grazia Daily, efforts are being made (including a petition) to bring the exhibition to McQueen's hometown of London. More about it here. An excuse to make a little trip - yes.

In the meantime, an interesting video with commentary on the curation of the exhibition...

Milk Bar

I recently spent a bit of time in New York with some dear old friends. On a previous visit, my friend Cathryn exposed me to one outrageous cone of ice cream - Cereal Milk Soft Serve - at a little place called Milk Bar - Momofuku Milk Bar. I hesitated to order one because the idea of such a thing brings me back to being forced to drink my leftover breakfast cereal milk for lunch as a 4 year old in day care. But, with one taste of this little number I got over my bad childhood memory, and will never hesitate again.

On this past trip, I over-indulged myself in a couple more cones of Cereal Milk, not to mention an excessive amount of spectacular baked goods from Milk Bar...

Their recipes are peculiar yet so satisfying. This article from bon appetit features a few recipes - Crack Pie is at the top of my list to try.

I would highly encourage you to go out of your way to give Milk Bar a visit.

There are several Momofuku restaurants around New York with two more to come in Sydney and Toronto.

9/11

photos from Pepperdine.edu

In honor of the victims who died on 9/11, a breathtaking array of 2,977 flags are displayed every year in Pepperdine University's Alumni Park - a beautifully grave reminder of that day 10 years ago.

Iain McKell - The New Gypsies with Kate Moss

When I was a wee one my grandmom always made a point to let me know that "the gypsies" were in town and that I had to be careful and lock the doors. This confused me to no end because "gypsies" made me think of Esmeralda from The Hunchback of Notre Dame. A little while back when perusing Netflix, I got into the series The Riches which intrigued me about the modern-day "traveler" lifestyle. Traditionally, the concept of thievery goes hand-in-hand with "gypsies". Whether that is fact or fiction, I do not know, but to look beyond that, the idea of the modern-day "gypsy" lifestyle is fascinating. Seeing that photographer Iain McKell published a book called The New Gypsies documenting the lives of a particular community of English nomads immediately grabbed my attention. Interestingly, several photos feature Kate Moss...

Wearstler Ensembles

Often times otherworldly, I appreciate much of Kelly Wearstler's work, specifically her use of stone...

Although, on her new-ish blog, My Vibe My Life, what stand out to me most are her ensembles...

She recently released her first ready to wear collection, and it looks like her boutiques at Bergdorfs just opened. Many pieces are available on bergdorfgoodman.com - the ones that stand out to me...

I'm curious to see more with the opening of her online boutique.

I find that I am drawn to ideas. Whether they are brilliant, simple, or aesthetically beautiful (to my eyes), they tend to be other people’s ideas. I have much respect for people who have the vulnerability to bring their ideas to life. My first internal reaction is often envy, but then it becomes gratitude – and gratefulness for a creator that enables people to bring to life the ideas that He gives them. Occasionally though, one of those ideas is my own. They don’t come often, but when they do, no matter how small or insignificant they may be, I am humbled and inspired. This is a place for me to exhibit those ideas, mostly others – sometimes my own.
